Nursing Home Renovations Mean More Family Fun, Community & Well-being

Nursing Home Renovation Builds Community
For Twin Oaks Post Acute Rehab, a recent nursing home renovation adds more benefit than meets the eye... for residents inside their building community, as well as the community outside.
When such important improvements are made, neighbors of this 100% employee owned nursing home are the first to be invited in for open house events, along with residents and their loved ones. They are all considered part of the Twin Oaks community.
This nursing home has added even more private rooms to an already attractive list of offerings for residents who, after a hospital stay, are ready for skilled rehabilitation.
Another seven private rooms were just renovated within the past few months. These special rooms offer additional solitude for families and other visitors.
Up until this point, Twin Oaks did offer private rooms. Adding the newest seven helps to make this nursing home more home-like and appealing for even more residents.
The resident rooms are just one of the renovation highlights.
"A sizable order of new equipment has been added for a brand new therapy room," says Executive Director Holly Schmunk. "We also converted a smaller dining room into a therapy room -- so we now have three therapy rooms in the facility, one speech therapy room, and a family room area where patients can go and ‘hang out.’"
“Hang out” might be understating things a little, as Twin Oaks offers a Nintendo Wii™ in the family room area. A lot of grandkids come in and get their resident grandparent(s) involved in some good old-fashioned competition, with an added benefit of bettering mental and physical activity.
Three different therapy rooms come in handy in a nursing home like this where almost half of the residents are therapy patients.
And the renovation as a whole is an added plus for a nursing home facility that continues to offer their indoor space to their neighbors.
"We've been moving towards having more outside agencies come in and have meetings in the facility - we invite people from the local area to come in for community education held in our facility," says Ms. Schmunk.
One example of such an agency is Addus, which specializes in home health. "We partner with a lot of these agencies, but they were the first to have something in our facility," said Schmunk. “Thirty to forty people usually attend these kinds of events - and we expect an even greater turnout as time goes on." Guests comment on how much they learn from the information they gather when the come to see the facility for themselves.
From the looks of it, Twin Oaks nursing home can probably count on even more new faces coming through their doors – whether it’s for skilled therapy, for a comfortable resident visit, or to attend an informative event. There are many advantages of their renovation – one being great things coming from a nursing home that really cares about “community.”
